A successful strategy for Ajka´s new urban face has to pay respect to existing potentials of the area. Present and well functioning structures should be integrated into the new entity. The strategy is based on counterbalancing the development density in the area. The acceptance of the loose structure on the perimeter of the area allows to generate higher density in the focal area as a kind of antipole. Concentration will give the centre of the town a new appearance and character.

The proposal describes the town centre as a dense structure of public spaces, a network of small streets with various urban situations. A thick central area that loosens towards its edges communicates with existing public spaces on its perimeter and creates a vital network. A mixture of new housing, retail, services and public functions provides lively and rich environment. In that sense the existing complex of buildings is filled in with a new fabric creating a dense urban pattern in contrary to the unbound character of its surroundings. Objects of various proportions define a diverse environment with a wide repertoire of urban situations and experiences. This approach might serve as a flexible tool for structuring and intensifying the centre of Ajka that adapts to its local conditions and enables for scheduled construction and appropriation of use in the future.

A rhysomatic mesh of streets and microspaces connects the existing parts creating a newly established urban network. The introduced input of volumes of complementary scales creates a framework that can be filled with buildings with wide range of different architectural expressions and attitudes which will allow a diverse environment to emerge.
